Campus Kitchen volunteers participated in National Nutrition Month® during March. National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and celebrated annually in March. The campaign focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. In addition, National Nutrition Month® promotes the academy and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information. This year's theme is "Go Further with Food," a reminder to eat healthfully for ongoing energy and plan meals and snacks in advance to help reduce food loss and waste.
Key Messages of the Go Further With Food Campaign include:
Include a variety of healthful foods from all of the food groups on a regular basis.
Consider the foods you have on hand before buying more at the store.
Buy only the amount that can be eaten or frozen within a few days and plan ways to use leftovers later in the week.
Be mindful of portion sizes. Eat and drink the amount that’s right for you, as MyPlate encourages us to do.
Continue to use good food safety practices.
Find activities that you enjoy and be physically active most days of the week.

Campus Kitchen partnered with the Peer Nutrition Educators (PNEs) to engage volunteers in their National Nutrition Month® initiatives. The Peer Nutrition Educators are a group of dietetics majors trained under registered dietitians on UGA’s campus. This month the students hosted and participated in events such as Food For All, ISL Coffee Hour, and Chick-fil-a Nutrition Night. A social media campaign is going on to help promote the goals outlined in “Go Further With Food.” Campus Kitchen volunteers took photos with a decorated photo frame and were featured on Campus Kitchen and the PNE social media platforms. Students were encouraged to tag their pictures with #NNMUGA or #gofurtherUGA to share ways they were reducing food waste or forming healthy habits.
